The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, July 20, distanced itself from the alleged arrest of Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, his wife and children.
The commission stated that a document making rounds on social media alleging that Kiraitu and family had been arrested was false.
The fake document indicated that the family was being arrested over a Ksh2 billion scandal that had allegedly erupted in Meru County Government.
Following the circulation of the document, netizens had speculated that Kiraitu's arrest was due to his recent statement on the Jubilee party.
Kiraitu had described the party as clueless, rudderless, planless and disorganised.
He added that it would take a miracle for the party to win any election come 2022.
"During the launch of Jubilee at Kasarani on September 16, 2016, (Deputy President William) Ruto described ODM as 'a clueless, rudderless, planless and disorganised' party. This description now squarely applies to Jubilee...
“The Jubilee party is full of horror stories only told in private, behind closed doors. Jubilee is involved in a terrible orgy of suicides, fratricides and infanticides,” Kiraitu stated.
Kiraitu stated all that had remained of the Jubilee party was the shell, the emblem, the flag and the irony: Tuko Pamoja.
The governor is one of President Uhuru Kenyatta's friends and insiders in the jubilee party.
Additionally, he is one of the leaders who supports the president's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
