The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama on Tuesday, July 20, condemned Jubilee Party vice chairperson David Murathe after he asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for a recount of the Kiambaa by-election polls.

In a statement, Muthama termed Murathe's confidence as laughable and absurd.

Further, he accused Jubilee party of attempting to rig in the just concluded Kiambaa and Muguga by-elections.

"If IEBC bends to this unorthodox demand, it will be complicit in perpetuating election malpractice.

"In any case, Machakos senatorial by-election votes recount should be considered first. Otherwise, Jubilee party should respect the will of Kiambaa people," Muthama stated.

UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina also alleged that the by-election had massive voter bribery, misuse of Administration officers including uniformed Chiefs and high level of Voter intimidation.

"It is shocking to note that...the Jubilee Party can demand for vote recount while knowing very well that on 15th July 2021, they did everything possible to try and unfairly sway the results of  Kiambaa Constituency and Muguga Ward By election!" she stated.

In a press conference on Monday, July 19, Jubilee party demanded a recount claiming that their candidate in the Kiambaa by-elections, Kariri Njama, won but was rigged out.

Njama vowed to fight until he was accorded an opportunity to serve the people of Kiambaa.

On his part, Murathe stated that the party had given their best shot during the campaigns.

"I think we actually won that is the message that you are getting from this group,” stated Murathe.

IEBC announced UDA's Party candidate Njuguna Wanjiku as the winner, garnering a total of 21,773 votes against Jubilee's Kariri who got 21,263.
