US President Joe Biden has asked Kenya to expedite the investigation into the murder of environmentalist Joannah Stutchbury

Special Presidential Envoy, John Kerry, issued a statement on Saturday morning, July 24, eulogising the late activist.

Kerry - the former US Secretary of State and Democratic Presidential nominee - advises Biden on climate and the environment.

"I’m sickened by the tragic murder of activist Joannah Stutchbury in Kenya. Justice must be served," Kerry stated.

He added that the deceased was a passionate advocate for environmental conservation. Stutchbury, according to Biden's special envoy, paid the ultimate price for her courage and exercising her human rights.

Biden's statement comes a few days after international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) listed four demands they wanted President Uhuru Kenyatta to address.

They urged Uhuru to direct the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate her death and release a conclusive report in a fortnight.

Uhuru was also asked to direct the Ministry of Environment and the Kenya Forestry Service to protect forests from land grabbers.

"My government will pursue and apprehend the criminals behind the killing of Joannah.

"We will not allow a few misguided individuals to continue shedding the blood of innocent people working hard to make Kenya a better place for all of us," he assured.

Joannah was shot six times outside her house in Mushroom Gardens estate in Thindigua, Kiambu County on Thursday afternoon, July 15. She was famous for protesting against the development of commercial plots in Kiambu Forest.
