Plea to Pay

Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, are staring at a possible jail term over failure to pay Ksh5.3 million compensation to one Lucy Nduta.

She sued the two following the fatal shooting of her kin, Edward Kuria which occurred on September 24, 2009 in Nairobi.

In his defence, Kariuki claimed that sentencing him and Kibicho would be shameful to the country. He pledged to have the National Treasury remit the money to Nduta.

Tragic Carnage

Nominated Senator Victor Prengei passed away after succumbing to injuries from a road accident on Monday night. The fallen legislator was aged 36. 

Prengei was Kenya’s first Senator from the Ogiek community. He was nominated to represent the youth and minorities in the Senate.

Justice Will Prevail

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that they had in custody a prime suspect in the murder of four men in Kitengela.

The suspect was identified as  Benson Melonyie ole Mungai, aged 40. He was apprehended by detectives on Monday, August 16.

On Sunday, August 15, the Private Association of Bikers staged peaceful demonstrations outside Kitengela Police Station. They demanded justice for their fallen comrades.

Fiscal Prudence

Moi University will embark on an exercise of downsizing its satellite campuses as part of a strategy to cut down on costs. This move also aims at focusing available resources on improving the quality of education in its main campus.

Currently, its wage bill stands at Ksh4.69 billion, most of which is concentrated in recurring expenses such as salaries. This makes it the third-largest after Kenyatta University at Ksh5.6 billion and the University of Nairobi at Ksh8.7 billion.

Hard Work Paying

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced cash rewards for Kenyan athletes who participated in the recently ended 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Gold medal winners were handed cheques of Ksh1 million.

 Athletes who won bagged silver medals walked away with Ksh750,000 for athletes. The bronze medal winners received a Ksh500,000 reward.

Gruesome Confession

A key witness to the murder of ex-deputy governor Kenneth Kamto has shed light on events building up to his demise.

Kiteme, who is now a prosecution witness, revealed that the raid had been premeditated. He and his accomplices carefully schemed a burglary that had to be successful.
