Students who wish to transfer from one college or university to another will have to pay Ksh1,000 to do so in an exercise that is scheduled to take 30 days.
Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, on Tuesday, August 17, said students who wish to make changes to the universities, colleges or courses they have placed will have to do so between September 1st and 30th.
The Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS), the body mandated to ensure placement of students to colleges and universities, will be responsible for the transfers.
“To enable successful applicants to further align their courses, I am directing Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service to conduct the inter-institution transfer process online from September 1 to 30,” stated Magoha.
The Ministry of Education noted that some students might have missed out on their preferred institutions and courses through avoidable mistakes, hence the need to offer them a chance to make the changes.
The students will be required to give supporting reasons for their transfer requests and must also meet the cut-off points for the specific program in their desired institution.
Upon submitting the appropriately completed inter-institution transfer request and subsequent approval by the two concerned institutions, the processing will take up to 14 working days.
Students were given three chances to revise their courses this year to make sure that none was left out.
“We introduced a third round of revision targeting candidates who had not been selected during the first revision of their degree or college choices,” Magoha stated.
Once the transfer is complete, the candidate cannot make another transfer as they are only allowed to make a single application.
In some cases, candidates only have one choice of institutions and degrees chosen instead of the maximum option of four.
Some candidates only went for the most competitive degrees, leaving them with no fallback plan should they fail to get a placement in their preferred course or college. This is according to KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Wahome.
