CCTV Footage Leads to Arrest of 2 Police Officers

A multi-agency team from Kisumu on Thursday, August 19, arrested two police officers in Gem, Siaya County in connection to a robbery with violence incident.

The duo was taken in for questioning after they were roped into the incident. 

Senior Sergeant Martin Murimi and Police Constable Albert Kimutai, who were apprehended by the multi-agency team, are attached to Sawagongo Police Post and Yala Police Station respectively.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led by the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Kisumu, reviewed the CCTV footage, which was reported to hold evidence incriminating the two officers. 

“They were arrested in connection to a case of attempted robbery with violence," reads a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke. 

"The two were caught on tape and are lead suspects in the case." 

Detectives further raided their homes and recovered exhibits believed to be key in solving the case. 

The police recovered a service cap, a pink marvin cap, a black coat and a mobile phone were seized from Sgt Murimi’s house.

At Kimutai's house, police seized one service cap, a marron polo t-shirt and one camouflage cap peak. The items, according to police, resembled clothes worn by the law enforcement officers during the incident.

The two, later on, accompanied the detectives to their respective police stations where the sleuths recovered two firearms, a G3 and AK-47 rifles.

"The items will aid the investigators in the case," the police report stated, adding that the two were transferred to Kisumu to record statements. 

Officers located at the police stations in Siaya declined to comment on the matter nor delve deeper into the robbery with violence incident.
