Murang'a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege, says Gatundu South Member of Parliament, Moses Kuria, is President Uhuru Kenyatta's favourite spokesman for the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, August 29, the woman MP said that the President has always preferred the Gatundu South legislator as his first choice despite the two seemingly being in an antagonistic relationship.
"Moses Kuria is still the President's favorite spokesman and Uhuru chose him even though he sometimes rubs him the wrong way," stated the Woman Rep.
The Woman Rep and former radio personality, highlighted the genesis of Kuria's rocky relationship with the President, revealing an instance in which the President was livid at Kuria for allegedly trying to undermine his leadership as the Mt. Kenya spokesman.
According to Chege, the President castigated Moses Kuria in 2017 during a State House meeting, for his alleged attempt to undermine his leadership in the Mountain region after the Gatundu South Legislator held a meeting at Serena Hotel with other Mt. Kenya leaders without the Head of State's knowledge.
She went on to reveal that one of the leaders who had attended Kuria's meeting lied to the President that Kuria had called the meeting to discuss Uhuru's Mt. Kenya leadership succession.
"I remember when we went for the first Parliamentary Group meeting in State House with the President. Even before we had been selected to join the government, Moses Kuria decided to hold a meeting at Serena with Mt. Kenya leaders to advise us on how to conduct ourselves in State House and what to discuss with the President, but someone called the President and informed him that Moses Kuria was holding meetings to plan to replace him as Mt. Kenya leader. The President was very furious at him," she noted.
The Gatundu lawmaker, responding to Sabina's comments, said that he had never seen the President so angry, and blamed Uhuru's angry reaction on leaders who had misinformed him.
"The President was very angry after being given misleading information, and meetings to unite leaders in Mt. Kenya region have since been under attack," stated Kuria.
Kuria did not hesitate to address the President for sidelining Mt. Kenya leaders and denying them a close relationship with him.
"He has denied Mt. Kenya leaders the much-needed love and attention and this makes Mt. Kenya leaders feel abandoned. Nothing can replace the love of a father."
Kuria went on to downplay Mt. Kenya fronting a candidate in the 2022 presidential election, saying that they have no chance of clinching the seat, hence the need to come together and chat the way forward. He noted that those who have expressed their interest in the presidency are not serious competitors.
"All these guys from Mt. Kenya who are running for President, from Jimmi Wanjigi and Mwangi wa Iria, are not serious contenders. That's why we do not take them seriously," opined Kuria.
