Police in Murang'a are holding a 65-year-old woman accused of murdering her nonagenarian husband by slitting his throat.
Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide department picked the woman from her home on Sunday, September 5, after they received reports that she had taken the life of her 99-year-old husband.
“In a murder most foul, the suspect, killed her husband using a machete by slitting his throat open and leaving his body sprawled on the floor," the DCI report stated
“The victim, who was born in 1922 and was in his twilight years, had just woken up and was warming himself by the fire in his son’s house, before he was brutally attacked by his wife."
According to the deceased's daughter-in-law, the woman had picked a quarrel with her husband before she went to the kitchen and returned with a machete.
“The suspect had picked a quarrel with her husband before she dashed to the kitchen and came back wielding a machete. She then slit her husband’s neck open and dealt him a final blow, by hacking his head just above the right ear," the DCI report added.
DCI detectives processed the scene and moved the deceased's body to Gaichanjiru Catholic Mission Hospital mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
The incident happened at their home in Kagumo-ini village in Kandara, Murang’a.
Earlier on in the year, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, had raised an alarm over the rising cases of homicide in the country.
He asked law enforcement agencies to do their best to contain the rising cases of domestic violence.
