Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, has revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, are grooming him to join active politics.

Speaking in North Mugirango, Nyamira on Wednesday, September 8, stated that he had clear plans to ensure that he is part of the next government.

"Uhuru and Raila are training me to succeed them," Matiang'i told the residents.

The CS mentioned that President Uhuru and Raila's roles in determining who becomes the next president cannot be ignored and that he was keenly following in their political footsteps.

Matiang'i mentioned that the Gusii community needs to be strategic in order to be in the country's leadership after the 2022 General Election.

Speaking metaphorically, the CS gave an analogy of how a trainee medicine man starts by carrying the basket until he perfects the craft, saying that he is currently carrying Uhuru's basket as he learns.

He also urged the Gusii community to register in large numbers as voters and be united as Nyanza region ahead of next year's polls.

The CS revealed that he had already received blessings from the Gusii community to join other national leaders in negotiating the political interests of the community.

"I want to tell Kenyans that Kisii community will be right at the centre where the national cake will be shared and we will not be watching from outside," he said.

Matiang’i was in the company of the Health Principal Secretary, Susan Mochache, Solicitor General, Ken Ogeto, and Nyamira Governor, Amos Nyaribo, as they launched the upgrading of Ekerenyo Sub County Hospital to a referral hospital at a cost of Ksh100 million.
