Strathmore School community has appreciated a number of its students who joined hands with their parents to rescue their colleague who was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in Nairobi.

Unfortunately despite the efforts, Ryan Mathenge Kigo, the Form Three student, passed away on Monday, October 25 at around 12:15pm.

The school, through its media pages, shared a detailed story of how his classmates spent nearly an entire day with him, encouraging, comforting and even donating blood to save his life.

That was also part of his last moments, a day before he passed on.

“We thank God for the gift of Ryan. We also thank the Form Three parents, for standing with Ryan’s family during his hospitalisation. We thank you for your prayers, moral support and financial contributions."

“In a special way, we thank all those parents who accompanied their sons to donate blood for Ryan on Sunday. Your love was overwhelming to the family,” the school appreciated.

The students were overwhelmed by losing their friend who was reported to have been one of the revered boys in the school. The principal and some teachers held a special session with the students who were also counselled by their chaplain, Fr Francis.

“He spoke and prayed together with them. We are also very grateful to Mrs Pauline Kamuti, a counsellor and a past parent of the school for graciously agreeing to offer Ryan’s classmate’s group counselling on short notice."

“We would like to offer our sincerest sympathies to Ryan’s mother, his brother and the entire family and pray that God will give them peace and consolation during this very difficult period,” the school prayed.

The principal further reached out to well-wishers to aid in offsetting the Ksh2 million hospital bill Ryan accrued while admitted at the ICU.

"The contributions will also go a long way in enabling us to give Ryan a befitting send-off."
