The speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi on Thursday, October 28, honoured the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, by opening a new county building renamed in her honour.
The new building, which is now called ‘The Dr. Joyce Laboso Center’ houses the Bomet County Assembly Chambers, the speaker and clerk’s offices among other administrative offices.
The late governor began the construction of the building before she passed on, and after its completion, the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) agreed to rename it in Labso’s honour.
While speaking to the press, ward representatives from Bomet stated that they were honouring Laboso for the good work she did for the county.
“We are excited because the late governor helped us construct this building, and now that it is ready, we want the speaker of the National Assembly to officially honour it.
“We are so grateful to the governor for allowing us to do great things in this county, besides what had been done earlier,” one of the ward representatives stated.
They further stated that they believe that this is the only special way they can show that they appreciate the good works of their former governor.

Laboso succumbed to cancer on July 29, 2019, at the Nairobi Hospital Cancer Centre, at the age of 58.
Her demise is one of those that shocked the nation, since she had just returned to the country from the United Kingdom and India for treatment.
She passed on after unseating the pioneer Council of Governors Chair, Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Masshinani, in the 2017 general election.
