A driver is lucky to be alive after a man saved him from a truck involved in a grisly accident at Kaburengu on the Eldoret-Malaba Highway.
The accident involved two trucks and a Toyota Noah. One of the trucks involved reportedly lost control and rammed into the Toyota Noah.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, October 31, the witness disclosed that he helped the driver from the truck that had already overturned and helped salvage his belongings.
He, however, spotted a used mattress from the truck which the driver was willing to give him for saving him in the tragedy that left one person dead and two others injured.
"I rose to the occasion while everyone had feared approaching the lorry. I got in and salvaged boots and he requested shoes with laces. I went back inside and got him the shoes. I got all the other things.
"I went back to him and requested that he gives me the mattress for use at home. He told me, 'given how you have helped me, take it,'" he narrated.
Speaking to the press, Matete Sub-County Commander Thomas Ototo noted that the truck, which hit the Noah, rammed into another truck transporting sand. Its driver died on the spot.
Two other drivers and a turnboy who were involved in the incident were taken to Webuye County Hospital.
“The truck burst into flames after veering off the road. The truck burst into flames killing the driver on the spot. However, the Noah driver had some injuries on the head,” he told the Standard.
The vehicles were all headed to Eldoret from Webuye.
Another witness confirmed that one of the trucks lost control after its breaks failed.
"The trailer was speeding after its breaks failed while approaching the bridge. A motorist heading to Webuye tried to overtake it but hit from behind and veered off the road," stated a witness.
