"I am going to help you with Ksh100,000 so that you can sort yourself out. Give me the money (Ruto to his aide) so that we can help these people grow their hotel," Ruto stated.

On his part, Zachary Matunda, the hotel owner, thanked Ruto for his kind gesture, revealing that he was inspired to start the business after losing his job.

"The moment my work ended, we decided to start the hotel from scratch and decided to name it Bottom Up. We started selling tea and mandazi. I did not know that there was something like the bottom-up then," Matunda disclosed.

Matunda’s wife on the other hand, could not hide her joy after meeting Ruto, revealing that she has always admired Ruto.

“I am so happy to have met with you today. This is indeed a dream come true,” she expressed.

After having his breakfast at the hotel, the Ruto took to social media to thank the owner for having him over for breakfast.

"Thank you Zachary Matunda for the cup of tea at your Bottom Up Hotel at Bomwagamo, North Mugirango, Nyamira County," Ruto tweeted.

However, since making the post on Twitter, there have been mixed reactions, with a section of social media users claiming that Ruto’s visit to the hotel was not a surprise and was part of a PR stunt.

Ruto popularised his presidential candidature using the bottom-up economy, an economic model he stated was intended to grow small businesses through financial support.
