Interior Ministry Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, has ordered police to crackdown on individuals perpetrating political violence in the country.

Kibicho ordered all County Commissioners and police commanders to effect the directive in a bid to curb the escalating political intolerance in the country ahead of the 2022 polls.

The PS stated that the government will not sit and watch as the country degenerates into a chaotic one as political campaigns intensify with less than ten months to the General Election.

Kibicho further noted that his Ministry will pay close attention to politicians and individuals suspected of sponsoring the chaos and using the youth to disrupt peace in the country.

The PS’s directive is one of the moves that the government has embarked on to prevent the possibility of political inflammations during the electioneering period.

The directive comes amid heightening political tensions in various parts of the country with the government vowing to put an end to such intolerance.

Kibicho's warning comes days after Deputy President, William Ruto, encountered hostility while on a campaign trail in Kenya's Nyanza region.

While campaigning in Kisumu's low-income area of Kondele on November 12, a group of rowdy youths hurled stones at his convoy, forcing him to cut short his speech.

Ruto also encountered similar hostility in Busia when youths ambushed his convoy on Friday, October 22, forcing law enforcers to intervene and disperse them.

The Busia chaos culminated in the arrest and arraignment of eight suspects, with CS Fred Matiang’i promising that his Ministry would not condone such behaviour.

On matters of politics, the PS remained adamant that CS Matiang’i and himself would not abandon politics as they were elevated to their positions courtesy of the same.

“CS Matiang’i and I are Kenyans, we are stakeholders here and we are going nowhere. If you are going to eat razor blades because we are talking politics, go buy now,” he stated.
