All politicians from Mombasa, regardless of their political affiliation, have suspended their activities in honour of staff attached to Mvita MP Abdulswammad Mohammed.

The four employees died in a road accident in Mpeketoni, Lamu County on Saturday, November 13.

The politicians, who were part of a mammoth crowd that attended the burial of the deceased, united in mourning the untimely death of the four during the Sunday, November 14, burial service.

They agreed to suspend all their activities beginning Sunday, November 14 to Monday, November 15, as a show of solidarity with the MP and to mourn with the families of the deceased.

"This is a big blow to Hon. Abdulswamad Nassir and to Mombasa as a County," stated one of the mourners.

Politician Suleiman Shahbal, who is eyeing for Mombasa gubernatorial seat alongside Nassir, also attended the funeral service.

"We have cancelled all our political activities today and tomorrow as well in honour of those who perished," Shahbal told the press.

Nassir, who was heartbroken from the incident, broke down during the service that took place at Masjid Shibu Mosque.

The four perished after a vehicle they were travelling in hit an electric pole after a tyre burst and rolled several times.

One of the employees died on the spot, while three others were taken to Mpeketoni hospital where they died on arrival.  The four are said to have been on their way to Lamu for a series of political gatherings when the accident happened.

Nassir's party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), in a statement, termed the deaths as a blow to the party.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to land in Mombasa on Tuesday, November 16, as part of a three-day tour of the Coast region.

Odinga started his tour on Sunday in Lamu County as he seeks to consolidate the coastal votes ahead of the 2022 general election.
