With the festive season kicking in, it is the dream of every parent to see their kids engage in fun and learning activities despite the prevailing economic conditions.

And with the clamour for fun and adventure heightening, Kenyans.co.ke combed through some of the family-friendly places parents can take their kids during this season on a shoestring budget.

Village Bowl

Located at the Village Market shopping mall along Limuru Road in Nairobi's Gigiri estate, the Village Bowl is a modern 11-lane Brunswick bowling facility that features a family-friendly atmosphere with artistic themes and live music. It offers leisure, sports activities, parties, and entertainment.

The area has a small restaurant and bar where you can refresh as you wait for your turn to play. Additionally, there are a number of games you can play such as foosball and air hockey.

For bowling activities, you will pay Ksh500 per individual irrespective of age. It opens between 11 am and 10 pm every day.

Luna Park

Located along kiambu road, the Lunar Park offers a family-friendly serenity with a number of activities your kids can take part in such as bumper car riding, kangaroo rides, flying chairs, helicopter rides, cup rides, horse riding, bungy trampoline, and the big wheel.

The entry is absolutely free. However, activities for children cost as low as Ksh100 for every ride and as much as Ksh3,000 for all available rides.

Under the Sea at the Village Market 

The area has a nice indoor play area for kids. It has an ‘under the sea’ ambiance with walls painted with sea creatures.

There is a sandbox, a painting area, balls, sponge and Lego pits. If you would rather just sit and watch the kids, there is a space dedicated to parents or chaperones.

The charges are Ksh350 for kids under 3 years and Ksh550 for older kids on weekdays. On weekends, prices go up to Ksh450 for the younger kids, while those over 3 years pay Ksh750. Chaperones and guardians pay Ksh200.

Funscapes Arcade 

This is an amusement park that offers a family friendly surrounding with a variety of fun activities including bumper cars and drop towers.

It also offers redemption games that can take you any place across the world virtually.

The area caters for children of all ages. It has two branches, one at the Thika Road Mall and the second one at The Hub in Karen.

For new parents the area also has games and activities designed to teach toddlers better hand and eye coordination.

The charges are Ksh500 for unlimited number of games.

The area charges Ksh500 per individual.

GP Karting in Langata

If you are looking for adrenaline rush, GP Karting in Langata offers a good number of adrenaline-filled rides and fun for your kids. 

The charges are between Ksh900 and Ksh1,300 depending on the age bracket (age 5-8 - Ksh900, age 13-16 - Ksh1,100, age 17 and older pay Ksh1,300).

Kids Arena Diamond plaza

The Diamond Plaza Kids Arena in Parklands offers a wide variety of kids activities such as skating rink, a maze of climbing nets, and loads of game consoles as well as the  trampoline park.

Additionally, it offers activities for both kids and adults such as bumper cars, slides, jumping castle and pool tables.

The area charges Ksh700 for kids below the age of 14 years, whereas for those who are 15 and above, the price is Ksh900 per hour. The charges are inclusive of skating boots.
