Former Standard Digital journalist has come out to reveal his last phone call with a traffic police officer who was killed in the road accident along Valley Road Nairobi on Friday evening, December 3.
In the road carnage, a police sergeant was knocked down by a speeding Passenger Service Vehicle that reportedly lost control before ramming into other vehicles.
According to Geoffrey Mosoku, who was suspended by the Standard in 2019 before eventually leaving the media house, he learnt of the tragic death through a phone call.
Mosoku tried to reach out to the police officer since he knew he was controlling traffic flow along that road to inquire on the huge snarl-up. Little did he know that the officer had been knocked down by the bus.
The journalist expressed his shock on the ordeal sharing his emotional tribute to the officer who also happened to be his close friend.
"The lifeless body of my friend Kilimani based traffic cop Sergeant Mustapha Lolo at Valley Road after he was hit by a matatu that lost control near CITAM church. Someone inquired about the huge traffic along Valley Road and my first instinct was to call him; little did I know he was gone. Just like that. Mustapha go well. I can't believe it, man you are gone!" he stated.
The police officer had been deployed to man the junction of Valley Road and Ralph Bunche Road. His body was moved to the Chiromo mortuary.
The accident left five other people injured and were rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries.
Nairobi Head of Traffic, Joshua Omukata, confirmed the mishap stating that also six cars were damaged.
“We have lost a dedicated officer in the accident and some people were injured,” noted.
The driver of the public service vehicle reportedly informed the police that he lost brakes that led to the accident that ended up causing a huge traffic in that road.
The driver was stopped after hitting the perimeter wall along Valley Road.
