Photos of the newly rehabilitated Uhuru Gardens have emerged as preparations for Sunday, December 12, Jamhuri Day celebrations hit top gear.

The recreational park was closed in June 2020 for a facelift that has taken a year and a half.

During an inspection tour by State Department of Interior and Citizen Services Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, ahead of the celebrations, all pointers suggest that the venue is ready for local and international events.

The PS stated that the works at the gardens were complete and the venue will be open for all those seeking to attend the Jamhuri Day celebrations.

"Civil works at the Uhuru Gardens stadium section have been concluded. The facility is ready to host the 58th Jamhuri Day on Sunday. Besides entertainment galore, the event will involve Trooping the Color by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)," stated Kibicho.

"Gates will open to the invited wananchi as early as 4:30am."

Ahead of the celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially open the recreation facility.

The Interior PS further noted that his Ministry and that of Health were working together to ensure that the Covid-19 protocols are observed and vaccination booths provided.

"In conjunction with the Ministry of Health, we will have vaccination booths to administer the Covid-19 vaccines at the venue during the Jamhuri Day celebrations," added Kibicho.

"We have enough vaccines and we ask even those who will not be attending the celebrations to come and get vaccinated."

The Jamhuri Day celebrations will be attended by only 11,000 invited guests among them dignitaries, government officials and wananchi.

At the same time, the government has maintained that there will be no parallel celebrations at the county level. This, according to the Ministry of Interior, is in line with the advisory by the MoH to reduce public gatherings and reduce the risk of spreading the contagious Covid-19 virus.
