Hefty Salaries & Benefits KDF, NIS Bosses Get

It's no secret that state officers in the executive arm of the national government take home hefty salaries as well as benefits.

For the security bosses, the highest-paid officer is the Chief of Defence Forces who takes home Ksh924,000. His junior, Vice-Chief of Defence Forces earns Ksh765,188 - a difference of Ksh158,812.

The Commander of Kenya Army, Director General of the National Intelligence Service and Inspector General of the National Police Service earn a basic salary of Ksh765,188.

In the case of the Deputy Inspector General for the Kenya Police Service as well as Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service, they take home Ksh621,250.

Part of the benefits that the State officers earn includes an annual medical cover; Ksh10 million for inpatient, Ksh300,000 for outpatient, Ksh150,000 for maternity, Ksh75,000 for dental and another Ksh75,000 for optical. Only children aged 25 years and below are covered in the medical cover. 

The security bosses have a life insurance cover and personal cover in case of emergencies each valued to three times of the annual basic remuneration package. 

The officers are also provided with Ksh20,000 monthly as airtime. Security is also provided at their residence. Other miscellaneous allowances include daily subsistence allowance, car loan and mortgage benefits.

Other state officers who enjoy the benefits include the President and his Deputy, CSs, Attorney General.

All the Cabinet Secretaries take home Ksh924,000, while the President enjoys a Ksh1,443,750- a reduction from the previous Ksh1,650,000 monthly salary. His Deputy gets Ksh1,227,188- a reduction from previous Ksh1,402,500

The news comes as there have been recent concerns regarding the salaries of a number of newly graduated police officers. This is after they found a deduction of close to Ksh30,000 in their pay-slip- an issue that IG Hillary Mutyambai affirmed would be looked into.
