The Government will effective Saturday, January 1, 2022 roll out the issuance of Covid-19 booster doses to eligible Kenyans who have completed their primary vaccination regime.
This is according to a statement issued by the State House on Friday, December 31.
This as President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi led top government officials to receive their booster doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.
The brief event was also attended by security bosses, Chief Justice Martha Koome, Health CAS Rashid Aman and Willis Akhwale, the Chairman of the National Covid-19 Vaccines Taskforce. All the leaders also received the booster doses of the Moderna vaccine.
The government has been ramping up its vaccination process, urging Kenyans to receive the vaccines in a bid to ensure their safety as well as those of their loved ones.
So far, only 7.6 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated- 4.09 million out of the 9,849,459 Kenyans who have been vaccinated.
The government has already issued a directive requiring Kenyans to undergo mandatory vaccination.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had stated that Kenyans who would not have been vaccinated by December 21, would be barred from accessing public transport and other recreational facilities during the Christmas period.
Other services that unvaccinated people would be denied include in-office services to protect government staff from contracting the virus.
“Everybody seeking in person government services should be fully vaccinated and proof of vaccination availed by December 21, 2021,” stated Kagwe.
The directive was however suspended by the High Court which, terming it as unlawful and unconstitutional.
“I will not issue any interim orders at this stage until I hear the parties before the government directives take effect on December 21,” Justice Anthony Mrima ruled.
