6 People Killed in Al Shabaab Attack

Six people were killed at Widhu Majembeni area in Lamu County, according to a report by police.

On Monday morning, January 3, 2022, Lamu police confirmed the incursions adding that several houses were torched in what is suspected to be an attack by Al Shabaab militants.

According to the police, the extremists struck the village and fatally shot one person and hacked another to death. They went ahead and torched houses while people were asleep killing four others.

This latest attack comes a year after the militants raided the Kenya Navy camp in Manda Bay, which is also home to US marines.

KDF released a statement confirming that four terrorists had been killed.

The terrorists attacked the airstrip at Manda Bay, targeting US aircrafts. The US aircrafts that were parked at the base were attacked using Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) owned by the extremist group.

In a statement sent out by the Al-Shabaab, their fighters allegedly inflicted severe injuries on both US and Kenyan troops, destroyed US military aircrafts and vehicles.

After the attack, the USA deployed special forces to Manda Bay Airfield to secure the base.

The deployed service members are part of a unit known as the East Africa Response Force (EARF).

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, two police officers were seriously injured in an ambush attack by armed gunmen suspected to be members of the Al-Shabaab militia group.

According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS), a team of National Police reservists were attacked by a group of about 30 militia.

The incident happened at around 7.00 pm in Olla Division, Mandera North Sub-County.
