Endebess Member of Parliament, Robert Pukose, has accused pro handshake MPs of receiving bribes to support the controversial Political Parties Amendment Bill.
While addressing a political gathering on January 2, Pukose alleged that the Members of Parliament received Ksh100,000 each even as the Bill passed through the second reading stage.
The ally of Deputy President, Willian Ruto, further accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, of influencing the process, adding that the Bill was meant to give Azimio la Umoja an advantage as the country heads to the polls in eight months.
"Those who are supporting this bill are given Ksh100,000 each so that they pass this bill. Bribery has now moved to parliament.
"We want to tell our members who have received this money from the government that they have sold their rights and that they will be punished this year," Pukose alleged.
The Endebess legislator added that they will move to court in the event that the Bill sails through parliament even as the MPs are expected to debate further amendments to the proposed Bill.
He alleged that the Bill was unconstitutional stating that the Registrar of Political Parties would influence the nomination process of political parties.
"We want to tell our colleagues that the issue of giving the Registrar of Political Parties powers in the nomination of political parties cannot be allowed.
"We will battle it out in parliament and if they force their way in parliament, we shall move to court,” the legislator stated.
Amidst the drama and chaos that have rocked the National Assembly during the debate of the Bill during the special sittings, Speaker Justin Muturi reconvened another special sitting from Wednesday, January 5 to January 7 for the Bill to move to the third reading stage.
At another event, allies of Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, stated that Ford-Kenya would support the passage of the Bill as it provides a clear formula for the division of the political parties fund.
"We have been in CORD and NASA together with our big brother ODM and when our money was coming from the Office of the Registrar of political parties they were being unfair to us.
"That is why we are saying that this Bill should be passed so that the registrar can be sending the money directly to us for purposes of enhancing democracy," Kiminini MP, Chris Wamalwa stated.
