Raila Picks Kibaki Nephew to Lead Campaign Team

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader,Raila Odinga, has picked nephew to Retired President Mwai Kibaki to lead his presidential campaign team.

The former Prime Minister has picked Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi as the chairperson of his campaign board.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, former KTN anchor, Dennis Onsarigo confirmed the new appointments aimed at bolstering Raila's presidential campaign drive.

"I can confirm that Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Murithi will lead the campaign's from now going forward," Onsarigo stated.

Raila revealing the reason for picking Murithii noted that he has amassed a lot of experience in the financial markets and brings on board over 29 years of experience in leadership and management.

"Governor Murithi was instrumental in the drive to have the derelict Nairobi-Nanyuki and Gilgil-Nyahururu railway lines rehabilitated. He is the current finance, planning, and economic affairs committee chairperson of the Council of Governors elected in January 2021," the statement released on Wednesday, January 5 read.

Murithii was elected governor in the August 2017 general election winning the race as an independent candidate after failing to clinch the Jubilee Party nomination ticket. 

Before that, he served as Laikipia west and Assistant Minister for Industrialisation between 2007 and 2013 in Kibaki's government. His tenure was characterised by improved incentives promoting investments and setting a conducive environment in the country for doing business.

Also appointed alongside Muriithii include Elizabeth Meyo, an IMF consultant. She will serve as the campaign's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and secretary to the board.

Meyo has over three decades of administrative and strategic experience to be part of the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development's presidential bid.

"She is the immediate former Commissioner of the Domestic Taxes Department at Kenya Revenue Authority. During her tenure at the KRA, Elizabeth was pivotal in the KRA’s policy and strategy development for the country," the statement added.

"She spearheaded the rollout of iTax which has revolutionized revenue collection in Kenya."

Meyo with all her experience will be instrumental in making statements and addressing the media on behalf of the campaign's board.

"Meyo will be the overall chief executive of the campaign, implement its strategic and key decisions, head the campaign secretariat, and make all vital decisions. She will be the sole campaign spokesperson.," the statement added.
