"Meyo will be the overall Chief Executive of the campaign, implement its strategic and key decisions, head the campaign secretariat, and make all vital decisions. She will be the sole campaign spokesperson," read the statement in part.

Meyo has been at the center of Raila's presidential bid as she was part of the team that spearheaded the Azimio La Umoja event which was held at the Kasarani Stadium in December 2021.

It was at the event that the former Prime Minister declared that he would contest for the presidency in the upcoming 2022 General Election.

Following the announcement, Meyo will work closely with Laikipia Governor, Ndiritu Muriithi, who was appointed as the chairperson of the campaign's board. The two also worked together to organise the Kasarani event.

In the statement, Raila explained that Meyo would bring her finance and governance expertise to the team, having worked with leading financial institutions in the country and in the world.

Previously, Meyo served as a commissioner at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and has been credited for revolutionising the collection of revenue during her tenure at the tax agency.

"She is the immediate former Commissioner of the Domestic Taxes Department at Kenya Revenue Authority. During her tenure at the KRA, Elizabeth was pivotal in the KRA’s policy and strategy development for the country," added the statement.

The former KRA commissioner is currently a consultant for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which is a financial institution tasked with promoting economic growth among 190 countries all over the world.

Her expertise in finance has also seen Meyo publish finance articles in various newspapers such as the Nation newspaper.
