  • Former Switch TV News Anchor Fredrick Muitiriri has joined TV47 days after announcing his departure from the Red Cross-owned station.

According to a promo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Muitiriri walked across the hallways to the studio as part of the big unveiling.

After posing in front of the camera, he announced that he would be anchoring Swahili news- urging his fans and followers to stay tuned for informative and impactful news coverage.

Muitiriri had announced his departure from Switch TV on Friday, December 31, through a detailed post on his social media.

Reflecting on his two year stint, he added how privileged he was to lead a team of more than 25 individuals in delivering timely news content.

"After almost two years serving Switch TV Kenya, lights have been switched off. It's an end of an era. As some may be aware, the station has moved on to a different direction which meant closing down of our Newsroom.

"I was honoured and privileged to lead a team of more than 25 young, innovative, smart, creative, and extremely hard-working individuals, who I'm sure, will excel in whichever field God will lead them to," he added.

The news anchor also went on to pen an emotional appreciation note to former Switch TV presenter, Tamima Ibrahim, who accorded him the opportunity to lead the newsroom.

"I remember, when my then boss, Tamima Ibrahim, gave me the responsibility of leading the small newsroom(I had applied for a totally different and lower position), I was a bit hesitant because I didn't know what that meant," he stated.

Muitiriri's decision to depart from Switch TV was influenced by the Station's move to end on-air broadcast.

Switch TV's group Chairman, Sahil Shah, on December 10, 2021, announced that they would focus on the digital space instead. The decision to go fully digital, according to Shah, was influenced by the market demands and that the media house would be building the new strategy.

"In character with our core philosophy of being responsive to the needs of the youth and with the ambition to become the go-to media platform for the emerging generation, Switch Media has made a conscious decision to build a new strategy around being digital-first," Shah stated.

Further, the company would unveil new products and services in order to cater for the new digital market.

"We hope to grow this brand together with the technology that comes with it. We assure our stakeholders of our continued presence and support," Shah noted.
