A meeting hosted by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Yatta farm in Machakos County on Saturday, January 15, was momentarily interrupted after a snake found its way into the venue.

Some of the delegates and guests scampered for safety, as seen in a video shared from the event.

Others could be heard screaming as one of the attendees rushed to tame it.

The hero of the moment struck the snake on the head, killed it, picked it with his hand and took it away from the tent.

Calm and tranquillity was then restored and the event continued as planned.

Kalonzo was expected to use the event to outline his political future and consolidate support from the region, a day after it emerged that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) team had proposed to select him as the coalition's flag bearer.

The announcement created tension within OKA, forcing its co-principals, Moses Wetangula (Ford-Kenya), Gideon Moi (KANU), and Kalonzo to reaffirm that the coalition was still intact. Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi skipped the event.

Musalia is expected to announce his presidential bid on Sunday, January 23.

Kalonzo's Yatta meeting also came amidst a supremacy battle with three other Ukambani Governors, Alfred Mutua( Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana ( Makueni), and Charity Ngilu (Kitui).

The governors criticised the Yatta event for being held at Kalonzo's private residence rather than at a public venue.

Kalonzo officially launched his presidential bid in November 2021.

Pundits, however, opined that he is at a crossroads on whether to remain in OKA, support ODM leader Raila Odinga or jump ship to join Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
