Musician Roy Smith Mwatia, better known as Rufftone, has revealed that his brother chased him with a machete during the elections because of their political differences.

During a TV interview on Tuesday, January 24, the singer explained that he and his brother were supporting different parties in the run-up to the 2007 General Election and this caused them to differ.

“In 2007, I remember very boldly my blood brother was supporting ODM, and I was supporting PNU, and when we disagreed in the morning, he and his friends ran out to the streets with machetes targeting me,” Rufftone stated.

The singer also engaged in a war of words with media personality Felix Odiwour, alias Jalang'o, who was also a guest on NTV's With All Due Respect (WADR) hosted by James Smart.

The two public figures, who are seeking elective seats in the August 9 General Election, sharply differed about party ideologies.

Jalang'o did not take kindly remarks made by Rufftone that he chose not to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) because of the hooliganism in the party.

Further, he explained that politics is about ideologies and there is no need to harm your opponent verbally or physically because they do not agree with you.

"Jalang'o you are new blood in ODM. You need to introduce the idea that people can differ in principle but it does not mean that they have to get physical," Rufftone explained.

However, the Kiss FM presenter stated that Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, had noted that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) was causing problems by reneging on what they have promised people, causing them to fight.

Jalang'o also castigated Deputy President William Ruto for allegedly giving out wheelbarrows to people who do not need them instead of coming up with policies to help them advance economically.

"That is where we come in with what is called participatory leadership where you ask people what they need before you show up with what they don't need. Bottom-up is about wheelbarrow and making sure that a graduate is given a wheelbarrow he does not need.

"That is what you are giving people in every single campaign. A whole lorry loaded with wheelbarrows and you see people receiving them. They have already sent people to a point where they believe that a wheelbarrow will change their lives," he explained.

Jalang'o is seeking an elective position and is set to contest for the Langata Parliamentary via an ODM ticket while Rufftone has announced his intention to vie for the Nairobi Senatorial seat on a UDA ticket.
