"Congratulations Charlie Gitonga on your appointment as Senior Business Reporter at BBC Africa

“You have headlined impactful economic stories across multiple African countries, and I look forward to many more," Mudibo stated.

On his part, Gitonga took to social media to express his gratitude to BBC for promoting him stating that he was ready for his new assignment.

"How cool to have your boss break your 'personal news'! Thank you, we're doing this," he stated.

Gitonga joined BBC as a reporter in 2018 and was a business broadcast journalist for the international news outlet. He was also a business reporter at KTN from 2014 to 2015.

The communication and media studies graduate of Daystar University joined BBC shortly after CNN International Correspondent, Larry Madowo, was appointed as a business editor for the organisation.

Previously, he worked at CNBC Africa as a reporter and producer where he covered topics ranging from the real estate industry, entrepreneurship, and manufacturing.

“I specialised in business and financial news reporting in East Africa. My favorite topics include financial markets – stocks and fixed income, real estate, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and ICT,” he stated.

Following the announcement, Gitonga's colleagues lead other social media users in congratulating him on his promotion

“You’ve been a senior journalist since 2016. Nice to see the money reflect accordingly,” Georgie Ndirangu, former BBC journalist stated.
