President Uhuru Kenyatta had lunch at his favourite spot in Old Town Mombasa, where he spent over Ksh200,000.

The President was described as a generous man by a source from his entourage who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke. Our source disclosed that the bill included meals the President and his escort had at Barka restaurant.

Uhuru visited Barka on Tuesday, February 8, in the company of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Mvita Member of Parliament Abdullswamad Sheriff and other local leaders after he commissioned a multi-million cancer centre at the Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The Head of State casually walked into the restaurant to enjoy lunch, despite the commotion by residents who were clamouring to get his attention.

This was the fifth time the President was visiting the Barka hotel. Sources at the hotel stated that Uhuru showed up with his entourage for lunch and the staff prepared a special meal for him.

Uhuru had a special fish coconut sauce, Swahili rice and green grams stew with a coastal twist. For dessert, the President had Matobosha which is a Swahili dessert made from wheat and sugar with a special twist from the hotel.

Usually, Uhuru's favourite meal at Barka Hotel is their Chicken Biryani. Staff at the hotel also know that the president's liking for their Tamarind juice which is a favourite of tourists and locals who frequent the restaurant.

"The president is very generous and he loves Mombasa people and that particular restaurant very much. Their food is very good and he is a loyal customer...Of course, he pays the bill and today he picked the tab for everyone who was in his team including the political leaders," our source stated.

The joint, located on Kibokoni Road in Mombasa Old Town, is a popular but simple eatery devoid of special customisation is preferred by the rich.

Its menu contains affordable meals, including slice bhajia that cost Ksh80 per portion, chicken biryani that costs Ksh550 as well as chicken pilau which trades at Ksh550.

The establishment is relatively cheap as compared to some high-end hotels where food costs as much as Ksh3,000.
