The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory to commuters using the busy Langata Road in Nairobi.

According to a public notice, traffic will be disrupted on the section of that road for hours. The road will be closed at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout.

The closure will last for over 12 hours starting from 4.00am to 2pm on Saturday, February 12. This is to allow the erection of the Nyayo footbridge whose construction has been going on for hours now.

To address the traffic snarl-up during the closure, the highways authority advised motorists to use alternative routes. Traffic flowing to Lang'ata would be diverted into the Lang'ata bound lanes sharing the lanes. That means the traffic would be one lane.

KeNHA further urged motorists to corporate with marshals to allow free flow of traffic on that closed section.

"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," KeNHA stated.

"Motorists are further urged to exercise caution and road courtesy for better management of traffic."

Lang'ata Road has been experiencing several closures for the last few months due to the ongoing construction especially Nairobi Expressway running from Mlolongo to Westlands.

The road project, which is set to be opened in March 2022, has caused traffic disruption in different parts of the city. Affected routes include Thika Road, Waiyaki Way, Mombasa Road among other routes.

The latest road to be closed is Kiambu Road which KeNHA announced that it will be temporarily closed from Saturday 12, from noon to Monday, February 14, to pave way for the erection of a footbridge.

"This is due to the ongoing construction of a footbridge. All vehicles are requested to use alternative routes," part of the statement released by KeNHA read.

The road has been one of the projects earmarked for expansion. The national government intends to dual the road from Muthaiga interchange all the way to Ndumberi in Kiambu County.
