President Uhuru Kenyatta has recalled a series of private tours he made with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga in different parts of the country that were not televised.

Speaking at National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at Kasarani on Saturday, February 26, the Head of State disclosed that apart from a few instances he was caught even on CCTV with Raila, the two accompanied each other even outside the country unannounced.

Uhuru detailed that in the company of Raila, he used to sneak out at night and drove themselves around Kibra and Mathare areas in Nairobi.

"Many are not aware of a series of tours we have made with Raila in different parts of the country, some outside the country or the series of meetings we have held with different community elders. All those tours we were not being televised," he stated.

"In Nairobi, we used to walk at night in Mathare, Kibra or drive in my car. We even headed to Kisumu to inspect various projects. After that, he used to take me to a local joint and eat fish," Uhuru reminisced.

In June 2019, Uhuru and Raila were captured on CCTV driving in Nairobi. Two individuals working for a popular hotel located in Nairobi Central District (CBD) were charged in court for leaking the footage of their entourage.

During the NDC, Uhuru also detailed how he joined forces with ODM to counter Deputy President William Ruto.

“Many doubted. Many told Raila it was impossible to sit at the same table with me. Their work now turned into opposing the government,” Uhuru stated.

Endorsing Raila's presidency, Uhuru defended his character noting that he is a transformative leader and a peacekeeper, not a warmonger as branded by his political opponents.

“It is not Raila who is a man of war. If he was, he would have resisted any peaceful attempts between him and (Mwai) Kibaki or the handshake," he remarked.

During the Kasarani NDC, ODM agreed to unanimously endorse Raila for the August 9 Presidential election.

Other leaders who joined ODM in their NDC include Governors Charity Ngilu (Narc), Kivutha Kibwana (Muungano party), Gideon Moi (Kanu), Cyrus Jirongo (UDP), Alfred Mutua (Maendeleo Chap Chap), and Chirau Ali Mwakere (representing Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka).
