The Amani National Congress (ANC) party has castigated Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua for his remarks on Monday, February 28, where he claimed that the Kenya Kwanza coalition had agreed to have a running mate from the Mount Kenya region.

In a statement signed by ANC Secretary-General Simon Gikuru, the Musalia Mudavadi-led-party warned Gachagua to refrain from making statements on matters that had not been agreed on by their principals.

Gikuru also described the MP as suffering from a "regional United Democratic Alliance (UDA) mindset" and urged him and his colleagues to embrace the broader picture of the Kenya Kwanza philosophy.

ANC affirmed that the coalition was yet to name a presidential candidate as well as running mate- pointing out that it would be announced at a later time.

"It is, therefore, our considered opinion that Rigathi Gachagua should transition from regional UDA mindset to embrace the broader picture of Kenya Kwanza philosophy.

"Kenya Kwanza coalition has not decided on its presidential and running mate candidates. This will happen and be unveiled at an appropriate time by our principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula," read part of the statement.

The development came amid jostling over who would lead the Kenya Kwanza campaigns in the absence of two senior principals - Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President William Ruto who are on a ten-day tour to the United States.

Further, speculations have been rife over the power-sharing deal among the three principals after ANC and FORD-Kenya agreed to forge an alliance dubbed Kenya Kwanza.

Recently, Nominated senator Isaac Mwaura intimated to the media that the Mount Kenya region would get the running mate slot while Mudavadi would become a Chief Minister should the Kenya Kwanza alliance win the August Election.

The speculations were however debunked by UDA Secretary Veronica Maina who pointed out that the details of the pact between the three principals would be unveiled at a later date.

"The cooperation between UDA, ANC and Ford Kenya is aimed at bringing all Kenyans together, driving Kenya towards economic prosperity by adopting the bottom-up economic model na pesa mfukoni model," read part of the statement.
