Raila Odinga Appoints Makau Mutua to Lead His Presidential Campaign

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Tuesday, March 1, appointed renowned scholar and distinguished lawyer, Prof Makau Mutua, as his campaign's spokesperson and head of the Secretariat's think tank.

In a statement released by Raila, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party boss detailed that the outspoken scholar has vast experience in politics and law that would benefit his campaign team.

The former Premier further cited the prestigious roles that Mutua has held in the country and out of the country.

"It is my pleasure to appoint Prof Makau Mutua the spokesperson of the Raila Odinga 2022 Presidential Campaign and the head of its think tank.

"Mutua needs no introduction to Kenyans. He is the former Dean at SUNY Buffalo Law School, The State University of New York where he is SUNY's distinguished professor and the Margaret W. Wong Professor," the statement introduced Mutua.

Apart from being vocal on social media, Raila heaped praise for Mutua for his advocacy in human rights in Kenya.

"Mutua is a frequent communicator in the electronic and print media on human rights, international law, and politics

"He was a member of the New York State Judicial Screening Committee which recommends candidates for the appointments of state's Judiciary," Raila stated.

After the announcement, Mutua took to social media to thank Raila for showing his faith in him adding that he would help the ODM boss win the August polls.

"Thank you, Raila for the trust you’ve placed in me and the privilege of serving you and the people of Kenya in these vital roles. Our march to State House is unstoppable. Because it is destiny," he stated.

Consequently, various leaders allied to Azimio La Umoja also took to social media to congratulate the scholar on his appointment, expressing their optimism in his leadership.

"Congratulations my friend on this opportunity help birth the promise of a new tomorrow and the great possibilities that we hope will come with it. You merit and are up to the task. Godspeed," Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu expressed.

Following his appointment, the outspoken academician joins a team of high-profile Kenyans managing Raila's campaign Secretariat.

On January 5, Raila announced the appointment of Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi as the Chairperson of his campaign secretariat and financial Guru Elizabeth Meyo as the secretariat Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Additionally, on February 14, the ODM boss appointed former KTN reporter Dennis Onsarigo as press secretary for the campaign secretariat.
