“We are delighted to welcome Ambassador Kazungu to the board at what is a crucial time for Caracal as we enter the next phase of our growth trajectory.

“His wealth of experience in the region will be critical in helping us realise our ambition of becoming a major gold producer and mine developer in East Africa," stated McCrae.

Founded in 2015, the company was established to acquire and develop under-exploited gold mining opportunities in East Africa.

It is also the force behind the mining activities at Kilimapesa goldmine in Migori where it seeks to increase its production to 24,000 tonnes.

Born in 1970, Kazungu has had a storied career since joining the workforce at the Institute of Advanced Technology as a Training Consultant.

He rose up the ranks and had stints at Fintec International where he served as a top-level sales professional for Microsoft and Compaq. He joined the Kenyan political space in 2010.

In 2013, he won the Malindi Parliamentary seat and was later appointed as the Mining Cabinet Secretary in 2015 and was excited to be the first individual from Malindi appointed to the position.

He later served as the Kenya High Commissioner to Tanzania.
