Four people suspected of masterminding and executing abductions in Kenya's capital of Nairobi, were arrested on the night of Wednesday, March 9.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the four were tracked down to Kahawa Wendani after they allegedly abducted three people, robbed them of cash and valuables before proceeding to dump them at Kabati area of Murang'a along the busy Thika Superhighway.

The country's investigative agency noted that the gang was targetting travellers using the Superhighway. The gang members, three men and one woman, were apprehended as they tried to lure yet another would-be victim.

“The dangerous gangsters who have made the lives of travellers to Central Kenya a nightmare were arrested following an operation by Ruiru-based crime busters, who accosted the thugs as they lured yet another victim,” read the DCI report in part.

The four were found in possession of a knife, metal rods and an assortment of crude weapons.

Following their arrest, an identification parade was conducted by DCI Ruiru and the four suspects were positively identified by their victims.

The DCI stated the suspects were processed and would be arraigned to answer to robbery with violence charges.

The investigative agency noted that in the Kabati incident, the gang hired a saloon and targetted passengers on various bus stope heading to various destinations in Central Kenya.

The DCI noted that the gang would then turn on the passengers and rob them at gunpoint before dumping them at secluded spots along the highway.

“In the latest incident, a lady who was picked at Waki stage in Ruiru on Sunday was threatened with a sharp knife before what she described as an ice-cold metal was placed at the back of her head,” narrated the DCI.

“She lost her mobile phone and an unspecified amount of money.”

Police are also investigating an incident in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where bodies of two middle-aged men were found abandoned in a car with bullets.
