Nation Media Group has appointed Joe Ageyo as the Editorial Director - Broadcasting.
In the Tuesday, March 15 statement, NMG Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Gitagama, announced that Ageyo will be taking up his new role effective April 1.
Ageyo will be tasked with participating in the development and execution of the NMG's editorial strategy as well as heading the editorial functions of NMG's broadcast operations across multimedia platforms.
Gitagama stated that Ageyo will report directly to the Editor-in-Chief with a dotted reporting relationship to the Executive Director- Transformation.
"As Editorial Director - Broadcasting, he will be an integral part of the leadership team and will participate in the development and execution of the Group's editorial strategy.
"Joe will be in charge of the editorial functions of NMG's broadcast operations in Kenya across multimedia platforms. He will report directly to the Editor-in-Chief with a dotted reporting relationship to the Executive Director - Transformation," the statement read in part.
Ageyo, who holds an MSc in Environmental Governance from the University of Manchester, joined RMS in 2018 as the company was restructuring following the exit of his predecessor and now Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Farida Karoney.
Gitagama stated that Ageyo was fit for the NMG role due to his impressive career and educational background which also includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the School of Journalism, University of Nairobi and Bachelor of Agribusiness Management from Egerton University.
"He also holds certificates in Sustainability Management and Environment Diplomacy from the University of Tilburg, Netherlands and the University of Geneva, respectively. He is a seasoned professional in journalism and brings a wealth of experience that will add great value to NMG.
"Please join me in welcoming Joe back to NMG, and in congratulating him on his new appointment. I am confident that you will accord him the support required to succeed in this role," Gitagama concluded in the memo to NMG staff.
Ageyo's exist from Royal Media Services (RMS) was announced by Managing Director, Wachira Waruru. He also revealed that Linus Kaikai was taking over from Ageyo.
In an internal memo dated March 9, he explained that Ageyo was leaving to pursue other interests outside RMS.
"I wish to announce that Joe Ageyo who has for the last four years served the RMS as Editorial Director is leaving the company to pursue other interests," the memo read in part.
