The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of Langata Road, at the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout to pave way for the construction of the Nyayo footbridge.
In a statement released on Friday, March 18, the Authority said that the road will be closed on Sunday, March 20, from 4am to 2pm.
“The Nairobi bound traffic will use Aerodrome Road into Uhuru Highway, whereas Langata bound traffic will be diverted into Langata-Nairobi bound lanes,” Eng. Kungu Ndungu, the Director General of KENHA, stated.
He urged motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with traffic marshals on the site.
Motorists coming from Langata, heading to Nairobi CBD will branch into Aerodrome Road behind Nyayo Stadium into Uhuru Highway.
Those driving to Langata from CBD will be diverted by traffic police into other lanes in a bid to uphold sanity.
Vehicles heading to South C, Raila Odinga Way and Wilson Airport will use the underpass.
Langata Road has experienced several closures over the past few months due to the ongoing road constructions in Nairobi.
On Saturday, March 12, the road was closed to allow contractors to build the Nyayo footbridge.
The construction of the T-Mall Flyover on Langata Road also led to the closure of the road for about six days. The flyover is expected to facilitate motorists headed to Rongai and Magadi to cross the road at the Shell Petrol Station near Wilson Airport.
The project upgraded the Langata-Raila Odinga-Mai Mahiu crossing utilising a four-lane flyover on Langata Road.
A footbridge was also constructed on Raila Odinga Way, previously known as Mbagathi Way.
