There was a traffic snarl-up along the Nakuru- Nairobi highway after two trucks collided around the Delamare farms.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred around 3:30 pm, however, the police are yet to establish what caused the collision.

"Traffic jam stretching kilometres along the Naivasha-Nakuru Highway around Delaware following a traffic accident involving two trucks," Chris Khisa, who was stuck along the highway tweeted.

Despite the police presence in the scene, motorists continued overlapping thus worsening the situation.

Others also lamented that the police were inefficient in manning the traffic.

"At this rate, everybody will end up sleeping here," Hezborn Muga tweeted.

Some of the road users also took to social media to lament the delays and called on police and traffic marshalls to seek reinforcements.

Motorists planning to travel using the road were cautioned to use alternative routes.

"If you are planning to use Naivasha - Nakuru road around Delamare, keep off," one Peter Kimani stated.

"I see ourselves sleeping here today," Dan Kioria added.

The major highway leading to Western Kenya is set to be expanded under the Ksh160 billion Nairobi - Mau summit road project that will see the highway turned into a dual carriage.

This move was informed by the traffic snarl-up that has frequently been experienced as trucks transporting the goods to Uganda also use the highway.

Transport CS James Macharia at a past interview indicated that the project would kickstart in coming months after financial institutions such as the World Bank showed interest in financing part of the mega infrastructural project.

"We will upgrade the old Nairobi-Nakuru highway that serves the major trade route between Nairobi and Western Kenya,” the CS stated.
