A Swedish company has revealed details of the sophisticated training equipment and other military gadgets days after sealing a contract with Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).
According to a Swedish aeroplane corporation known as Saab, KDF will receive state-of-the-art equipment for a light role infantry battleground.
The new equipment will target 800 soldiers working on different areas and ranks within the KDF.
The Swedish company will supply Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES). In this form of war engagement, transmitters are typically used instead of bullets, larger rounds, or shorter-range guided weapons like anti-tank missiles.
According to a representative of the Swedish company, they will supply standard laser-based gamer system, consisting of individual personnel detection devices (PDDs),detector systems for light tactical vehicles and laser projectors for a variety of infantry weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and simulated hand grenades and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
It is designed to use the latest Urban Combat Advanced Training Technology (UCATT). It also employs the use of Laser Engagement Interface Standard (ULEIS) laser code.
These are sophisticated systems of engaging the enemy without causing massive harm to people, property and even the environment.
The weapons are used by other forces across the world including Brazil, the US among other nations.
The new equipment comes even as KDF continues to acquire modern weapons to stock their armory.
In June 2021, KDF acquired a warplane valued at Ksh1.4 billion (US$14 million).
Speaking during the commissioning of the aircraft, Kenya Air Force (KAF) Commander Major General Francis Ogolla disclosed that the C-145 Skytruck aircraft was acquired through Excess Defence Article (EDA) after the signing of the Kenya United States Liason Office (KUSLO) agreement by the two Governments on 4 April 2017.
"This aircraft will not be in the service for display but to enhance the capability of our air support to our sister Services,” stated Ogolla.
