Saboti Member of Parliament, Caleb Amisi, recounted how a journalist saved his life during a demonstration in 2017.

During an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, April 8, the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) Legislator narrated how police lobbed a tear gas canister into his car.

Amisi stated that he was struggling to breathe and got confused on what was happening, adding that a journalist who was covering demonstrations moved close to his car and helped him out of the vehicle.

The Legislator credited the journalist for saving his life, stating that he would have died on that fateful day.

"I think I am the first MP who was teargassed while in the car, let alone those teargas cannisters that are thrown at protestors and people flee. I was in the car and if it were not for the journalist, I would be dead right now," he narrated.

At the height of the 2017 polls, the National Super Alliance (NASA) affiliated parties staged protests near the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices calling for reforms in the electoral body.

The NASA leaders took to the streets on Mondays in what came to be known as 'Teargas or Machozi Monday'.

During the interview, Amisi added that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, helped ease tensions in the country.

"The final accord of any war is always peace and justice. It does not matter how much time it takes. No matter what happened in 2017, it would have still ended in a handshake. Those two leaders (Uhuru and Raila) made peace before we could end up in war," he stated.

Amisi made the revelation while in the company of his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino, Nyali's Mohammed Ali, and Dagoretti South's John Kiarie.

During the mid-morning show, he urged politicians to exercise decorum when appearing on media stations for political shows to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2017.

"There are so many Kenyans who are looking up to young parliamentarians and if we squabble on live tv, then that is not good. Our people need hope," he stated.
