Wiper Party aspirant Mike Sonko has revealed intrigues behind his gubernatorial bid in Mombasa county.
Sonko revealed that the Member of Parliament of Kisauni Constituency, Ali Menza Mbogo, who was earlier fronted for the seat was not willing to give up his position.
According to Sonko, Mbogo wanted him to be his deputy, but Sonko was neither inclined to deputise anyone in the August polls.
He likened the proposal to a demotion and noted that it was impossible for a 'president' to vie again as a deputy.
"My brother Ali Mbogo has agreed to deputize me. Today we have agreed to put the needs of the Mombasa people at the forefront.
"We have agreed because it wasn't an easy job. It was tough negotiations because he (Mbogo) wanted me to be his deputy but that wasn't possible," he added.
Sonko appreciated Mbogo for agreeing to deputize him. He added that claims that he is an outsider were unfounded since he was born in the region and his mother also comes from the county.
He further stated that he would unveil a manifesto that would clearly indicate his dreams and aspirations for the county.
Sonko assured the residents that he would deal with joblessness and water problems that have marred the county for ages.
"We want to create a conducive business environment and fix issues of drainage and sewage so that Mombasa looks like Dubai.
"Once we take the oath of office, we will get down to business and start working for the people," he stated.
Kalonzo met with Sonko and Mbogo to end the stalemate which had hit the party over the ticket.
The entry of the duo into the Mombasa gubernatorial race now sets the stage for a titanic battle that will see the Azimio coalition field two candidates - Sonko Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who will contest via an ODM ticket.
The Kenya Kwanza coalition has former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar as its candidate.
