5 Killed, Politician Among Others Missing in Ambush Attack

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement following an attack that left five people dead and a politician among 12 people missing.

According to the statement dated Friday, April 29, and signed by police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the attack is linked to the perennial conflict between two communities in Marsabit.

He noted that more security officers had been deployed in the area to track the attackers and trace the missing persons.

"Following a security incident on April 28 in Laisamis Marsabit county, that led to the loss of life of a Chief and Assistant Chief, the National Police Service immediately mobilised its officers and launched an operation in the affected area," the statement read in part.

"Preliminary reports indicate the incident is linked to a recurrent conflict between two communities residents in the country," the report added.

County Police Commander Robinson Mboloi also confirmed the incident noting that the National Government Administration Office (NGAO) administrators and an MCA were being traced.

The incident took place within Awaye, in Shuur location in North Horth that is located east of Marsabit town.

In protest, residents in Loglogo on Thursday, April 28, temporarily blocked the key Isiolo-Marsabit highway but police intervened and restored the flow of traffic.

The police boss said they were tracking down the attackers and searching for the missing persons in the affected area that stretched into the dense Mt Marsabit forest, a hideout for bandits.

Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali was caught in the melee on his way to Nairobi after launching the county scholarship fund in Marsabit town.
