Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, has castigated the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the ongoing probe into the death of nominated MP David Ole Sankok's son.

Gachagua, while speaking after visiting the Sankok family on Friday, May 6, to console them, stated that the matter was being politicised and dragged intentionally.

The Mathira lawmaker claimed that the DCI was not being reasonable with its investigation, accusing the police service of intimidation and not respecting the family during the mourning period.

He further claimed that state agencies were not empathetic with the Sankok family and have asked them to record numerous statements despite the pathologist report being availed after the postmortem.

The MP asked agencies to allow the family to bury the young man and conduct their investigations after the high school student has been laid to rest.

"We accept those investigations can continue, we ask the DCI to give time to this family to bury their child, and if they have issues that aren't clear, they can come after the burial. But subjecting the family to record so many statements at this difficult time is unacceptable," Gachagua stated.

"To a great extent, the family has undergone a very difficult time and therefore we urge the DCI officers to exercise humanity and understanding and the family to bury their child in peace."

Gachagua urged the DCI to be professional and stop showing the MP and his family in a bad light.

"We want to warn agencies of government not to be drawn into their normal issues of politicizing everything so that they are seen to punish and intimidate those who are not of a certain political position," Gachagua stated.

Sankok was questioned for the second time by officers from the DCI over inconsistencies in statements issued by the family in relation to his son's death.

On Thursday, May 5, Narok County DCI boss, Mwenda Ethaiba, stated that they were investigating a possible second gun involvement in the incident.

He stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the gun they had earlier taken for ballistic analysis was possibly not the one used in the shooting incident.

Police indicated that they will probe how the high school student accessed the gun reported to have been kept in a safe.
