The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has named Justice Mohammed Ibrahim as the Supreme Court representative in the body.
In a statement dated Tuesday, May 17, the JSC announced that Ibrahim was elected unopposed for the position since he was the only validly nominated member.
He replaces Deputy Chief Justice, Philomena Mwilu, who served as the Supreme Court representative since her election in 2017.
The elections were conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
"Justice Mohammed Ibrahim has been elected unopposed as the Supreme Court of Kenya representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
"The exercise was conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer, Abdidahir Maalim Abdi, who certified that Justice Ibrahim was the only person who stood validly nominated for election. He replaces DCJ Philomena Mwilu who has completed her term," read the JSC statement.
During her 2017 appointment, Mwilu was elected unopposed to serve for a period of five years.
She replaced the then Supreme Court Judge, Smokin Wanjala, whose term ended in 2016.
The Commission has 11 members headed by Chief Justice Martha Karambu Koome and consists of representatives from the Court of Appeal, the Attorney General as well as two Judges from the High Court among others.
Ibrahim was appointed as a Judge of the inaugural Supreme Court of Kenya on June 16, 2011 after an open and competitive interview.
He had worked at the High Court since 2003 and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.
