Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to rejoin the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition under structured dialogue.

The announcement was made by Wiper Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui.

The decision for Kalonzo to reconsider working with Azimio the flag-bearer Raila Odinga was reached after a lengthy meeting on Monday, May 23, in Machakos county.

It was reported that 45 out of 50 Wiper aspirants endorsed Kalonzo Musyoka’s return to Azimio with less than three months to the general election.

Earlier on Monday, a section of Wiper party politicians asked the former Vice President to reconsider his presidential bid, asking him to exhaust all the available dispute resolution mechanisms under the Azimio coalition.

The leaders revealed that Kalonzo ditched the coalition party because there were no structured discussions on the coalition's arrangement.

"We want to be part of the new Kenya going forward but we need structured discussions as what is being offered are only in the media. We want Azimio to know that the issue is about Wiper as a party, and not Kalonzo as people have made it to be," Mbui stated.

However, they noted that being hardliners would only cost the people from the lower Eastern a chance to be in government.

The move comes a day after Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket stated that Kalonzo had already rejoined Azimio after mediation talks led by Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.

Kalonzo officially parted ways with Raila on May 16 after the Azimio leader failed to name him as his running mate, instead settling on Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua. Consequently, he declared his bid for the presidency on a Wiper ticket, and named Andrew Sunkuli as his running mate.

His decision was criticized by leaders from the Lower Eastern region who accused him of putting his selfish interests first.

Kitui governor Charity Ngilu opined that he should have accepted the Chief Cabinet Secretary position he was offered, adding that he would have been the second-most-powerful leader in the government should Raila win the election.

The creation of the position of Chief Cabinet Secretary and Prime Cabinet Secretary position in Azimio and Kenya Kwanza respectively has raised questions about whether the winner of August polls will uphold the constitution or prioritize amendments to the Supreme law to accommodate loyalists.

Since Kalonzo bolted from Azimio, opinion has been divided regarding his options as the clock ticks towards August 9.

Steve Ogolla, an advocate of the High Court argued that the Wiper party leader could not be legally permitted to run for President.

"Wiper Party is part of Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Party. In short, Wiper already nominated Raila Odinga as its presidential flag bearer. They cannot have a second bite at the cherry," Ogolla explained.
