Mathira Member of Parliament and Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, now alleges the impeachment plan against Deputy President William Ruto was to see him replaced by Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi.

Speaking in Marakwet East on Friday, May 27, Gachagua claimed that Senator Moi had been selected as the possible replacement in what was a plan to ensure he loses government privileges.

Gachagua stated that Jubilee MPs lacked numbers in the House to impeach Ruto and that is why the motion was not brought to the floor despite being fronted by allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gachagua, while discouraging Marakwet East voters against voting for non-United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates, said the lack of numerical strength is what saved the DP, further asking the voters not to pick independent candidates.

The Mathira lawmaker claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta's party had mobilized its marshalls to impeach Ruto and they would have succeeded had they gotten the required numbers.

Gachagua made the remarks in a bid to discourage residents of rift Valley from voting for independent candidates, likening them to a vehicle without a number plate, opining that it can only belong to thieves.

The Kenya Kwanza running mate stated that the party needs all the votes it can gather because as leaders they have learnt not to trust independent candidates when it comes to passing crucial bills.

In March 2022, Jubilee Party vice chair, David Murathe, revealed that the ruling party was planning to remove DP Ruto and his allies from their political seats for "promoting the affairs of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party."

Murathe was speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, where he opined that it was unconstitutional for the DP to join another political party apart from that he was elected into office and continued serving in the same capacity.
