Police Issue Madaraka Day Traffic Advisory

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations that will take place at Uhuru Gardens on Wednesday, June 1.

In a statement dated Monday, May 30, and signed by the police spokesperson, Bruno Shioso, it was noted that traffic on roads leading to the venue of the national celebrations will be disrupted on a need basis.

He added that the Nairobi traffic management department will deploy adequate officers to help manage the traffic flow on various roads leading to the Uhuru Gardens in Lang'ata.

Roads used to access the venue include the Southern Bypass, Langata Road, and Raila Odinga Way - formerly known as Mbagathi Way.

"Movement of traffic along all roads leading to Uhuru Gardens will not be disrupted unless temporarily on a need basis where vehicles will be diverted accordingly.

"Motorists are urged to exercise caution and obey traffic laws at all times, stern action will be taken against offenders," read the statement in part.

Additionally, the police stated that vehicles with event passes will be given first priority in parking, with other vehicles directed to different venues.

"Vehicles with red stickers will be ushered to Uhuru Gardens through Gate 3 and the spillover will be guided for parking at Uchumi Supermarket. Other vehicles will proceed along Langata Link Road, drop visitors at Carnivore - Link Road junction, and will be guided for parking at Carnivore Grounds.

"The rest of the vehicles will drop visitors at the same junction then proceed to Swami Narayan Temple Road and park at Ulinzi Sports Complex," added the statement.

To ensure that there is efficient traffic flow after the event, the police stated that VVIPs' will be given priority with vehicles parked at Uchumi Supermarket, Carnival Grounds, and Ulinzi Sports Complex allowed to leave in that order.

Preparations for the Madaraka Day have been underway with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) holding a free air show on Saturday, May 28, to showcase some of the aerial drills conducted by the Kenya Airforce during national celebrations.

The event was graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
