The Nation Media Group (NMG) has unveiled a program to counter Citizen TV’s News Gang as the August 9 General Election draws closer.
News Gang, hosted by celebrated anchor Yvonne Okwara, discusses politics and matters of national importance every Thursday at 9pm.
NMG’s NTV has adopted a similar approach but a podcast-based.
Editors Roselyne Obala, Oliver Mathenge, and Guchu Ndung’u, will be part of a panel of three looking at the day’s politics.
In a podcast dated, Friday, June 3, the trio discussed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s return to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party.
Kalonzo accepted the Chief Minister position offered by the coalition's presidential aspirant, Raila Odinga.
The controversy arising from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) voter register also surfaced in the discussion. Deputy President William Ruto alleged that over 1 million voters in his stronghold were expunged from the register.
IEBC and Raila are yet to respond to Ruto’s claims.
Obala, Mathenge, and Ndung’u also weighed in on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s last Madaraka Day speech.
NTV, on April 13, also unveiled a show dubbed Party Primaries Fever to discuss the then party nominations.
Former Citizen TV Editorial Director and ex-News Gang panelist, Joe Ageyo, hosted the show in his capacity as NTV’s new Editorial Director - Broadcasting.
Assignment Editor Ben Kitili, Political Editor Roselyn Obala and Podcast Editor, James Smart, were members of the panel.
