Maendeleo Chap Chap, led by Machakos Govenor Alfred Mutua, the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) led by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi were among parties that were conspicuously missing from an official list of Kenya Kwanza Coalition parties.

In a notice dated Sunday, June 5, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) confirmed that only 11 parties constituted the Kenya Kwanza Kwanza Coalition.

Headed by Deputy President William Ruto, Kenya Kwanza has three founding parties including United Democratic Alliance (UDA) headed by Ruto, Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya headed by Moses Wetangula.

The other eight parties that were later admitted to the coalition party include Chama Cha Kazi headed by Moses Kuria, Communist Party of Kenya (CPK), Devolution Party of Kenya  (DPK) and Economic Freedom Party (EFP).

Others are Farmers Party (FP), The Service Party (TSP) of Mwangi Kiunjuri, Tujibebe Wakenya Party (Jibebe) headed by William Kabogo and Umoja na Maendeleo Party.

"The Registrar of Political Parties gives notice to the public that the 11 political parties listed below are confirmed to be the bonafide members of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA) in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2011," read the notice in part.

The notice effectively left out three key members who had publicly shifted their allegiance to DP Ruto's camp including Mutua of Maendeleo Chap Chap, Kingi of PAA and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi of Democratic Party.

At Kenya Kwanza, Alfred Mutua and Kingi had negotiated top of the range roles including serving as the Deputy Chief Minister if the Kenya Kwanza Coalition won the August 9, General Election.

In his role, Mutua would be directly under Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi who would serve as the Chief Minister.

Mutua further noted that his position would also include a ministerial portfolio in Infrastructure Development.

The duo, however, have faced hurdles since plotting their exit from Azimio la Umoja after they claimed that they were not treated as equals.

Notably, their agreement with Azimio bound them into the coalition for at least six months - three months before and after the General Election - although they have since challenged the legality of that provision.
