The CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Dr Ezekiel Mutua on Sunday, June 12, became the highest-ranking government official to admit the possibility of a presidential run-off in the August 9 poll.
Mutua noted that he was shocked after doing some grassroots polling among the youth and realizing what he termed as overwhelming support for Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah.
In a public statement, Mutua revealed that his sit-down with a group of youth revealed how much Wajackoyah was revered by the group which forms the majority of the voters, adding that he may cause an upset in the poll.
The CEO predicted that the controversial candidate would garner more than one million votes in the August 9 General Election, and force a re-run.
"Wajackoyah will cause a re-run. I sat down with a group of young people last night and was shocked to hear the animated conversation on why they love the guy.
"If the talks are anything to go by, Wajackoyah will get over one million votes and that will be a game-changer! "He remarked.
Notably, the candidate's clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has caught the attention of both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza. The Spokesperson of Raila Odinga's campaign team Makau Mutua lauded Wajackoyah's candidature as testament of the country's democracy.
"The clearance, by IEBC, of Wajackoyah the weed-smoking and snake-farming advocate — to run for President is proof all dreams are valid and that Kenya’s democracy is slowly coming of age! The man has even vowed to abolish the same constitution that has permitted him to run!" Mutua stated
On the other hand, Kenya Kwanza gubernatorial aspirant Moses Kuria, who is running under a Chama Cha Kazi ticket, declared him a threat to the coalition's round one victory.
"George Wajackoyah might send Kenya to its first Presidential run-off. This needs to be declared a national crisis and emergency," the MP declared.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna also congratulated Wajackoyah. However, Miguna gave his two cents on his manifesto, telling to retract on the eyebrow-raising issues and focus on more pertinent issues.
"The death penalty is an anachronistic and barbaric practice that is also not allowed under the Constitution of Kenya. Campaign on a progressive and transformative platform. Avoid making utterances that grab headlines because they are crazy," he stated.
The Roots party candidate was cleared alongside Azimio's Raila Odinga, UDA's William Ruto and Agano Party flagbearer David Mwaure.
